North Carolina Reading Association Each year the North Carolina Reading Association is supportive of individuals through scholarships. If you are planning to pursue your Masters or Doctorate in · Be a resident of · Be a member of NCRA and a local council if available. · Sign an agreement that all scholarship funds awarded will be used as proposed in the application. *If you are applying for a second scholarship, please contact one of the officers for further details. · To what extent has the applicant indicated a professional commitment to literacy. · To what extent has the applicant demonstrated teaching competence. · To what extent does the applicant demonstrate potential for making a significant contribution to the field of reading or literacy. · To what extent is the applicant involved at the local and state level of NCRA. · Secure an application by downloading it from our web-site: ncreading.org or from the Past-President. · Complete and return application to Past-President postmarked no later than February 1, 2010. Include all required materials in the same envelope. · Include two reference letters in sealed envelopes. One will be from your Principal/Assistant Principal or Supervisor and one from a local council officer. (If there is no local council, a letter from a co-worker or professor may be substituted for the local council officer’s letter.) · Full-time students who are not currently employed by a school district may also apply for the NCRA Scholarship. Full-time students may substitute letters of reference from their academic advisor, professor who has had them as a student in a graduate-level literacy class within the last two semesters, or their major research professor. · Full-time students are required to submit two letters of reference in sealed envelopes with their application packets. · Applicants enrolled in a program will include a copy of their letter of acceptance with their scholarship application materials. · Submit an official copy of college transcripts. · Submit a vita/resume. · All materials, application, reference letters, vita/resume and transcript, are all submitted together. · The Past-President will receive all information related to applicants and will provide these to the members of the Committee. · The Committee will recommend the total amount of money to be used for the scholarship program during the year and the number of persons to receive assistance. The goal is to provide a scholarship in each region if possible. · From the list of applicants, the Committee will identify and approve scholarships as projected in the annual budget. · Each recipient will receive a commitment letter from the Past-President indicating that the Scholarship Committee has approved his/her application. · Recipients will be invited to the State Conference and the award(s) will be announced at the Last General Session. · The Past-President will notify in writing all applicants who were not awarded. · Upon receipt of the agreement letter from the recipient agreeing to the terms of the scholarship, the President will direct the Treasurer to write a check to the University/College that the recipient is attending for use by the recipient.
